Tascam M-3500 Mixing Console Modifications

Please do not send email asking how to perform these modifications. We were carefully guided through these mods by a skilled electronics engineer. It was a long time ago and we would not be able do the same for you without a huge risk of permanently disabling your console.

Here's a brief description of the modifications that have been made to the mixing console, which were designed by James Zuehsow. We can't thank him enough for taking so much time out of his schedule to share them with us.

Op-amps in mic pre-amps replaced with socketed Burr-Brown OP2604 op-amps.
All other op-amps replaced with socketed Analog Devices OP-275 op-amps.
Removed many, many low quality electrolytic coupling capacitors.
All mix buss build-out resistors changed from 22k to 10k metal films.
Parallelled op-amp output capacitors with polyester film capacitors.
EQ section: changed high shelving to 12kHz and low shelving to 80Hz.

Components of this quality are rarely stock items -- even in consoles costing many times more than the M-3500. The result? Greatly improved clarity and a much lower noise floor. We're now hearing individual sounds retain much more detail and definition in dense and complicated mixes.
